CONFIBSIG – WELCOME

The Ibero-American Network of Geographic Information Systems (REDISIG) and INTERRA (University Institute of Research for Sustainable Territorial Development) of the University of Extremadura are pleased to invite you to participate in the XVIII Ibero-American Conference on Geographic Information Systems (CONFIBSIG), to be held from 16 to 19 May 2023 in the city of Cáceres, Spain. This Conference will be developed in a mixed way, with the possibility of attending it in person in the city of Cáceres or virtually through an on-line platform.

CONFIBSIG is the most important scientific-technological meeting of the speciality in Ibero-America. During the days of the event, the state of the art is outlined in terms of theoretical, methodological and application developments corresponding to the advances made from different disciplines that have found in Geography as a science and, particularly, in geoinformation, a fundamental dimension for their studies. Researchers, teachers, consultants, technicians and students approach the most modern developments from different research centres and institutions in different countries to learn about, analyse and discuss new models of solutions to spatial problems at different scales. It is considered that Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) and particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS) become fundamental theoretical-methodological tools at the moment of supporting rational decisions and actions that try to find useful paths for future development. From 1989 to 2017 it was organised by the Ibero-American Society of Geographic Information Systems (SIBSIG) and from 2019 by the Ibero-American Network of Geographic Information Systems (REDISIG) together with several Ibero-American universities hosting the event. CONFIBSIG thus becomes a space for these tasks in the search for the best use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, so that from various disciplines support is provided to address the socio-spatial problems of our national realities.
